(Dan Tri) – Man Utd is experiencing one of the worst seasons in the Premier League since legendary coach Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

The risk of finishing with the worst score

Coach Erik Ten Hag may be worse than coach David Moyes – who was fired after only 10 months in the `hot seat` at Old Trafford, when at that time Man Utd only finished 7th in the Premier League rankings.

But currently the `Red Devils` are ranked 8th and only have 3 matches ahead against Arsenal, Newcastle and Brighton.

Previously, coach duo Ralf Rangnick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer together held the worst record for a season in the 2021-22 season, when they only reached the finish line after 38 rounds with 54 points.

Notably, while coach David Moyes was fired after only 10 months in the hot seat, coach Ten Hag spent his second season at Old Trafford.

The defense is fragile

Man Utd has also conceded 3 or more goals in 8 Premier League matches this season.

Part of the reason behind the `Red Devils` easily conceding goals is allowing opponents to easily penetrate the defense.

This season, the `Red Devils` defense faced 317 shots, more than any other team in the Premier League.

Man Utd also received an xGA (expected goals conceded) index of 9.48, more than any other team in the tournament.

Coach Ten Hag cited injury problems this season, especially in defense, to explain why his team conceded 22 more goals than last season.

Received the most losses

It’s not surprising that a team that concedes so many goals tends to lose matches.

The `Red Devils` have lost 13 matches in the league this season, one more than the 2021-22 season, when coach Solskjaer was fired and Rangnick replaced him.

In all competitions, Man Utd’s 18 losses are the most since the 1977-78 season (19).

The season with the least number of goals

Man Utd’s attack has not been able to save coach Ten Hag this season in the context of a long-term injury crisis in the defense.

Currently, the `Red Devils` have scored 52 goals in 35 Premier League matches, 3 goals more than their worst performance in the 2015-16 season under Louis van Gaal.

However, Man Utd still has 3 matches to improve its scoring ability.
