`It’s clear that the hawks in Washington do not want to end the conflict, but want our country to be exhausted even at the cost of the lives of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians. Or even want the Russian Federation to disappear.`

Ambassador Antonov’s comments were made in response to US Republican congressman Mike Turner’s statement that `pro-Russian` messages are being spread in the US Congress, making it more difficult to support Ukraine.

`In America, not a day passes without accusations being made against our country of all sorts of crimes, but without checking the facts and presenting any evidence,` the Russian diplomat added.

According to Ambassador Antonov, fatigue over the financial burden for Ukraine is increasing in Western countries.

`People’s fatigue with the financial burden for Ukraine is objectively increasing in the West. The American people do not understand why they have to work hard and pay taxes, the money will then be used

Mr. Antonov added that the United States is facing `a series of urgent economic and social problems` and solving these problems is a top priority for the American people and politicians.

Ambassador Antonov accused the US of having long harbored a plan to end the export of Russian energy resources, including natural gas.

According to Castellum.AI, since Russia annexed Crimea, the US has been the main enforcer of sanctions against Moscow, imposing more than 4,500 restrictions.

Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow is ready to restore `official relations` with the US if Washington begins to respect other countries and seek compromise instead of `solving their problems with

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused the US of wanting to cause a strategic defeat with Russia and this has strained relations between the two countries to the point of rift.

He emphasized that peaceful coexistence between Russia and the US can only be achieved if Washington recognizes Moscow’s `fundamental national interests`, but the US ruling elite still seems to `deny reality`.

Mr. Lavrov stated that it does not matter to Moscow who wins the 2024 US presidential election because Washington `sees Russia as an opponent and an existential threat`, regardless of party.
